This catalog contains a list of all music printed, instructional methods published, and instruments manufactured in the year 1774 by the British publisher Longman, Lukey, and Broderip (later Longman & Broderip after Lukey withdrew in 1776). The company was well-known for their ability to supply publications from continental publishers alongside their own wide array of British publications.

Terminology

Throughout this catalog, the term "German Flute" is used frequently in reference to the transverse flute - both in section titles and in piece/method titles. However, when referencing the vertical flute, the term "Common Flute" is used in the name of an instructional method's title but, under the list of instruments manufactured, a listing for flute cases simply states "Flute and Hautboy Cases." Because the vertical flute was more readily associated with the Hautboy, it is likely that this term is referencing the vertical flute as well.
