The Compleat Tutor for the Flute (1746)
About
|
The Compleat Tutor for the Flute is an instructional method for the vertical flute. Like many of the other instructional methods, the work begins with a brief explanation of flute fingerings and basic musical concepts. There is also a page on how to transpose on the flute followed by 15 pages of short pieces for the instrument. Finally, there is a brief dictionary of musical terms included at the end of the work.

Terminology
This instructional method is clearly meant for the vertical flute, as evidenced by its frontispiece - which shows a man playing the vertical flute - and vertical fingering charts. Throughout the work, only the term "Flute" is used in reference to the instrument.
